To kick things off we will start with "speed-networking", and follow up with three brief research pitches by Julia Mönig, Hannah Winter and Rebekka Gröge. The workshop “My journey after my doctorate – career paths” is going to have inputs from Constanze Kurz and Susanne Gössl, followed by Q&A and a coffee break. Constanze Kurz holds a doctorate in computer science and writes about issues relating to data protection, IT security, technological surveillance, and ethics in computer science. She is spokesperson for the Chaos Computer Club and has been a fellow of the German Informatics Society since 2021. Susanne Gössl is Director of the Institute for Private International Law and Comparative Law and holds the Chair of German, Foreign, and International Private Law and the Law of Digitalization. Among other things, she is a member of the Commission on Reproductive Self-Determination and Reproductive Medicine of the BMG, BMFSFJ, BMJ, and head of the Justitia program.
Generative AI is often presented as a groundbreaking technological innovation. At the same time, however, increasingly problematic side effects are becoming apparent: the mass production of synthetic content and the erosion of copyright frameworks, unreliable results in sensitive areas, and new vulnerabilities to phishing and malware. The environmental costs are particularly critical: AI data centers consume large amounts of energy and resources, and their expansion puts pressure on the achievement of global climate targets and can lead to significant amounts of electronic waste in the long term. In her talk, Dr. Constanze Kurz, computer scientist, publicist, and spokesperson for the Chaos Computer Club, combines technical analysis with a critical assessment of the social and ecological implications of generative AI. The talk will be followed by a fireside chat with guided questions and room for open discussion. This talk will be in German.
The AI Queens* of Bonn lecture series offers anyone from the Bonn area, who feels underrepresented in AI practice, research, or education, a space to connect and share their experience. Every quartile another guest speaker is invited to share some insights about work or research on artificial intelligence. Dr. Julia Maria Mönig (University of Bonn) will present the “Certified AI” project and provide insights into her ongoing research on human-centered AI. “Certified AI” is a project of the KI.NRW flagship and aims to develop procedures for generally accepted standards for AI systems and their verification, as well as business models for certification.
We invite all interested to our monthly networking lunch. This time we will meet at the Hofgarten Mensa. You can interchange with others interested in AI in an informal environment.
